Friendly is the term often applied for a relaxed and "friendly" gathering of Kubb players to play together. Friendlies are often held in parks and typically do not have firm start and end times. They are particularly open to first time players and it is expected that the more experienced players will help out people new to the game. Kubb friendlies are a great place to learn about the game and techniques for better game play.

In the spring of 2007, while trying to introduce people to the game in Eau Claire, WI, Eric Anderson wanted to create events where people could come, play kubb, have fun, and meet new people. They could come as a group or individually. The idea for the term "friendly" came from the term "soccer friendly", where two teams play, but not in a true competition format. From there, the term "kubb friendly" was born.
